Designer Turns Real Flower Petals Into Fashion Illustrations

A designer from Singapore who hears the name Grace Ciao used real flower petals  to create a series of unique illustrations. Having as canvas a typical figure / model Ciao created unique and uber chic dresses from flowers.

Although she was interested in fashion design since she was a little girl, Ciao only recently came up with the idea of using flower petals in her work. The thought came to her when she wanted to preserve the beauty of a dying rose that she got from a boy. The discovery helped her realize the aesthetic and artistic advantages of this original use of petals.

They help me create prints which I otherwise couldn’t have thought of,” Ciao told Buzzfeed. “I think petals work really well for illustration also because their delicacy and exquisiteness mimic those of a soft fabric.

In black and white frame the actress appears posing topless, while strikingly colorful flowers adorn her naked body! The collaboration with the  Balenciaga launched in early 2012, mainly because of the close friendship with the then creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere.

It was speculated that K. Stew, a Nicolas Ghesquière favorite, would be dropped as the face of the fragrance once Alexander Wang came in as creative director, but it appears that she’s here to stay
