Karl Lagerfeld and Christian Louboutin to collaborate with Louis Vuitton

In celebration of 160 years of Louis Vuitton, the French maison has asked six renowned artists to redesign the iconic symbol LV with their own, unique way.

The top fashion designers Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Newson, Christian Louboutin and Rei Kawakubo, famous photographer Cindy Sherman and the architect Frank Gehry participate in the team project «The Icon and the Iconoclasts», in which everyone will draw their own interpretation of the trade mark of the French brand, and then to “dress” a collection of handbags.

The collection will be released in mid-October and despite the fact that each bag will vary in 2000-4000 eurosthe demand is expected eminently high.

“When we talked with Nicolas Ghesquière about the extraordinary talents we would like to approach we simply went to those who are among the best in their fields,” says Delphine Arnault, executive vice President of Louis Vuitton, who came up with the idea alongside Ghesquière.

She added: “We were interested in people who work with their minds and their hands. I thought it was so interesting – and fun! – to have all of these different points of view on the Monogram. It is inspiring to see how they envision things, to see their perspectives. This is a group of geniuses.”

The top French brand joins forces again with talented street artists for his new collection of accessories. the last two years the famous firm cooperates with several young artists.  This collection looks to the house’s affinity for street art. First up is Chilean artist INTI‘s work, which references the Inca god Wiracocha, while Brooklyn-based pop artist Kenny Scharf offers up his share of psychedelic and surrealist motifs with the use of bold colors. Finally Paris’s own Andre Saraiva reappropriates his classic Monsieur A tag on to the Monogram Scarf with splattered paint. Alongside the collection, LV has also released a summer version of its leopard print scarf by Stephen Sprouse, which is now available in stores. The new artist scarves are set to hit Louis Vuitton boutiques in March.
